Heaven's Arsenal: Part 3

Heaven's Arsenal - "The Power of Confession"

We've all heard the expression, "confession is good for the soul".  But did you know that CONFESSION is actually a spiritual weapon? To really appreciate how good confession is for the soul, we need to more fully understand the benefits of it.

Confession Relieves Us From Guilt

Guilt is a heavy burden. Scripture tells us plainly that we have "all sinned and have come short of the glory of God," (Romans 3:23). Simply put, we are all guilty. Guilt, if unresolved, becomes a crushing weight upon the soul. But guilt if confess our sins and repent for them, confession relieves our guilt and lifts the weight of it from our souls. This restores us into a right relationship with God, as He Promises to forgive and cleanse our sins if we confess them (1 John 1:9).
1The one whose wrongdoing is forgiven,
    whose sin is covered over, is truly happy!
The one the Lord doesn’t consider guilty—
    in whose spirit there is no dishonesty—
    that one is truly happy!
When I kept quiet, my bones wore out;
    I was groaning all day long—
    every day, every night!—
because your hand was heavy upon me.
    My energy was sapped as if in a summer drought. Selah
So I admitted my sin to you;
    I didn’t conceal my guilt.
    “I’ll confess my sins to the Lord, ” is what I said.
    Then you removed the guilt of my sin. Selah (Psalm 32:1-5).

Confession Enables Us to Pray Effectively and with Power

Once forgiven and cleansed, we may ask to be spiritually clothed in Christ's Righteousness (Isaiah 61:10). Instantly, we are given the ability to pray effectively, with hell-shattering prayers (James 5:16). Conversely, when we do not confess our sins and turn from them, when we are not able to be covered in the Righteousness of Christ, God does not hear our prayers.

"If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened," Psalm 66:18.

Confession is Vital to Healing

Scripture tells us that if we confess our sins one to another and pray one for another, we will be healed (James 5:16). In other words, confession is our part in preparing to seek the healing of God. Unless we have fulfilled this prerequisite, we cannot expect to be healed.With God, healing of the body is also proportionate to the healing of the soul (3 John 1:2). Confession is vital to full healing.

Once you have confessed your sins, you are ready to go to war. You are armed and dangerous to the shadows and spirits of darkness. You are ready to effectively pray and resist Satan. Confession truly is not only good for the soul, it is a powerful spiritual warfare weapon.
