Thoughts and Commentary on Today's Reading:

There's a powerful statement in Judges chapter 2. Joshua was such a Holy-Spirit-filled individual, such a strong influence for righteousness that the people were faithful to God for his lifetime. Think of it! What an epitaph it is that to say that one's life was so empowered by God and one's influence was so mighty for God that everyone touched by that life walked in faithfulness to Him - because of the leadership of that one godly life? That's so huge! What a powerful testimony!
Judges 2:7   "And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel."
The record in Judges goes on to say that once the godly leadership was gone (Joshua died), the people left God and turned to idolatry. Thus, we can truly verify that it was due to Joshua and his holy leadership that the Children of Israel were exhorted to faithfulness by him.

Frankly the whole concept has me in amazement! Not that I don't believe it! Of course I do believe that God was able to work through Joshua so mightily that a whole nation was lead in righteousness through the power of his one life. And the thought of this inspires me. It shows what God can do with one fully surrendered life.

Sometimes when we look at the increasingly pagan world around us, the way people think, the rising atheism, we Christians tend to throw up our hands in despair. What can one person (like you or me) do to stem the tide of neo-paganism on such a scale?

But in Joshua, and even more powerfully in Yahshua Christ, we see the power of one - the power of one surrendered life. And after Yahshua's Death, the roomful of 120 people was filled with His Spirit and empowered to not only impact a region but to take the Light of Truth to the whole world.

God doesn't need many. He just needs total surrender. What can one person do to stem the tide of athieism? Consider the following youtube video by Ray Comfort. And as you do, I encourage you to pray and submit yourself fully into God's Hands. What He can do with you, if you will be fully surrendered, is far beyond your imagination. Be encouraged! By God's Grace, there is tremendous power in one! Now, don't just admire it - be that one!
