Thoughts and Commentary on Today's Reading:
One of the most underappreciated parts of the Bible is the Law of God. So, when our Bible reading in Deuteronomy is presented as the Last Book of the Torah (the Law), or the Book which overviews and summarizes the rest of the Law, we aren't that excited about it.
But according to Scripture, forgiveness for our sinful lawlessness is vital to Salvation. And, by God's Grace, we can live a transformed and changed life in Him.
The Law of God is made up of beautiful parts. The Ten Commandments are like the chapter titles. And the 613 Statutes are the fine print, or details, expanding our understanding of the principles outlined in the Ten Commandments. It is through heeding God's Word and hearkening to Him, having been forgiven and cleansed from out past, that we are made sheep of His Pasture, who will one day possess the ultimate Promised Land:
Deuteronomy 4:1-2 "Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you.Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you."
