Thoughts and Commentary on Today's Reading

Death. It's one of the most painful and difficult realities which any of us have to face. Often, we find the idea of our own death easier to bear than it is to deal with the loss of a loved one. There's no two ways about it - the loss of a loved one in death is painful!

Yet Scripture assures us that Yahweh has overcome death. We know about the Resurrection - and yes, there is comfort in the awareness of that future. But there is also comfort in the face of loss even now. Yahweh, Who only does what is for good, gives comfort to His people by swallowing up the tragedy of death in victory - right in the point of crisis, while our faces are still stained with tears of devastating loss...  Look up!
Isaiah 25:8 "He will swallow up death in victory; and Yahweh God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of His people shall He take away from off all the earth: for Yahweh hath spoken it.
The following video by Louie Giglio is memorably titled Fruitcake and Ice Cream. In it, Louie shows how Yahweh swallows up death in victory - even in the face of tragedy. You can skip the "music" by going in about 1:37 and starting from there :-)
