Torah Class: Day 23 - Prophecy in the Genesis 10 Table of Nations - Amorites - part 1

Basis for our Studies this Year:

The Bible tells us that the “End (of the world) is declared from the “beginning” (Isaiah 46:10). Certainly, this means that the early Biblical record of human history bears End-time prophetic significance. But, it’s actually even more specific than that. The original Hebrew word translated as “beginning” in Isaiah 46:10 is תישאר (rê’shı̂yth). This is the root of Bereshith, which is the Hebrew name of the first Book of the Bible, “Genesis”. In other words, prophecies of the End of the World are found in the Book of Genesis.

The Torah is one of the five keys for unlocking End-time Prophecy… Prophecy is unlocked through the Statutes!

Genesis 10 and the Prophetic Table of Nations - the Amorites:

Connecting End-time Bible Prophecy with the Genesis 10 Nations to discover the prophetic application and role of each ancient kingdom…

Scripture tells us that Genesis is a prophetic template

·       Isaiah 46:10 – “The end is declared from the Beginning (Genesis)”

·       Genesis 10:16 – the Amorites are named as the children of Canaan, son of Ham

The "Genesis 10 Nations," or the Table of Nations, is a Biblical chapter listing the descendants of Noah's three sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—as the founders of various peoples and nations after the Flood, symbolizing the spread of humanity across the earth, with specific lineages linked to regions around the Mediterranean, Asia, and Africa. Key descendants include Japheth's sons (Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, Tiras) settling northwest, Ham's sons (Cush, Egypt, Put, Canaan) in Africa/Middle East, and Shem's sons (Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud, Aram) in the Near East, with Noah's grandson Nimrod establishing early kingdoms like Babylon and Assyria.

Prophetic Shadow: The Amorites resisted Israel and fought against it. Also they would not allow Israel to pass peaceably through their land, on their way Home…

Judges 11:17-20 – “Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab; but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh. Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came to the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.. And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land unto my place. But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.”

There is a literal and spiritual application to this prophecy

·       The spiritual Amorites are working to hinder our passage to our spiritual destination

·       Yahweh ultimately judges these resisting groups:

o   Ezekiel 35:3-5 - Thus says Yahweh God, Behold, I am against you, Mount Seir [the capitol of Edom], And I will stretch out My Hand against you And make you a desolation and a waste. I will lay waste your cities And you will become a desolation. Then you will know that I Am Yahweh. Because you have had everlasting enmity and have delivered the sons of Israel to the power of the sword, at the time of their calamity, at the time of the punishment of the End.”

Israel encounters the Amorites from Kadesh Barnea (or Kadesh)…  mentioned 10x in Scripture, which is the number of testing and (specifically) testing related to Torah. Ten is the number of proving in Hebrew.

Kadesh Barnea is mentioned in Genesis 14:5-7: In the time of Abraham, the Horites, Amalekites, Amorites, Mt. Seir inhabitants, Mt Paran dwellers, were all in or near Kadesh Barnea.

Abraham fought to save Lot and the inhabitants of Sodom (Genesis 14:7-17)…

An angel of Yahweh appears to Hagar (Genesis 16:14; Genesis 20:1) in a valley of Kadesh.

The Amorites are descended from Canaan, grandson of Noah. Their land was north of Moab. “Amorite” means “fast talker” “drawing near to bitterness”, “highlander” and “mountain dweller (denotes one who takes command, with a sizable force)”

Amos 2:9 - “Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.”

Nave’s Topical Bible refers to the Amorites as “giants”.

Og, king of Bashan was an Amorite giant, being at least 12 feet tall, and sleeping in a 13.5 foot bed.
