Thoughts and Commentary on Today's Reading:
For today, I found myself focusing especially on the message of Psalm 27. In this chapter we find the antidote for fear. Fear plagues us... We fear for our health. We fear for our futures. We fear for our families. We fear...Yet there are 365 verses in the Bible which tell us that it is not God's Will for us to be afraid! That's one "do not fear" verse for every day of the year. David beautifully adds to this message with Psalm 27:1-5:
"The LORD (Yahweh) is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD (Yahweh) is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the LORD (Yahweh), that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD (Yahweh) all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD (Yahweh), and to inquire in His Temple. For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His Pavilion: in the secret of His Tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me up upon a rock."The truth about fear is that it is a form of idolatry. We worship what we fear, whether we mean to or not. This is why God tells us not to fear anyone else but Him. And of course fearing Him isn't about being terrorized. It's about deep reverence and worship, which can only come with comprehension of Who He is. I truly believe that we can only fall prey to ungodly fear when we lose sight of Who He is.
So today, I want to share a video with you that is one of my family's favorites for putting everything into the right perspective. The video is about 43 minutes long, and well worth the time. It's a talk by Louie Giglio called "Indescribable" (the talk starts at about 1 minute in). As you watch, may you be blessed to see a bigger, deeper, better, clearer picture of God. And may you find, in that view of Him, that the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His Glory and Grace.
