Torah Class: Day 68 - Praying Through the Sanctuary: The Most Holy Place and the Ark

Basis for our Studies:

The Bible tells us that the “End (of the world) is declared from the “beginning” (Isaiah 46:10). Certainly, this means that the early Biblical record of human history bears End-time prophetic significance. But, it’s actually even more specific than that. The original Hebrew word translated as “beginning” in Isaiah 46:10 is תישאר (rê’shı̂yth). This is the root of Bereshith, which is the Hebrew name of the first Book of the Bible, “Genesis”. In other words, prophecies of the End of the World are found in the Book of Genesis.

The Torah is one of the five keys for unlocking End-time Prophecy… Prophecy is unlocked through the Statutes!

Praying through the Sanctuary:

Praying through the Sanctuary, as one experiences each Space and piece of Furniture, in order, can dramatically empower and enhance our prayer lives. It helps us have all the “ingredients” needed for effective prayer.

The Psalmist actually tells us that in praying through the Sanctuary, we will come to more intimately know Yahweh.

Psalm 77:11-13“I will remember the works of Yahweh: surely I will remember Thy Wonders of old. I will meditate also of all Thy Work, and talk of Thy Doings. Thy Way, O God, is in the Sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?”

Sanctuary Prayer Ingredient #11: The Most Holy Place and the Ark of the Covenant

The Shekinah Glory of Yahweh was in the Most Holy Place. There was only one piece of Furniture in this Room, which was the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark represented Yahweh’s Throne, which is why the cherubim were on either side – just as they are in Heaven.

The Ark sat in the Most Holy Place, and the high priest went in and ministered before it on the holiest Day of the year…  The Day of Atonement…  Leviticus 16… The chapter is on the Day of Atonement, but it starts with the deaths of Nadab and Abihu. There is clear danger in presumptuously entering Yahweh’s Presence…  We are to come, but to do so without a righteous rendering of the death we (as sinners) deserve… Presumption is the opposite of Faith (Faith comes by hearing the Word of Yahweh)… Presumption is just doing it however I feel or please…  Faith is entering Yahweh’s Presence based upon His Word and Instruction.

Inside the Holy of Holies sits the Ark, the Covenant, the cherubim, the Glory. Over the Ark is the Mercy Seat.

People hear “mercy seat” and imagine something soft and sentimental…  no…

The Mercy Seat sits above the Law of Yahweh… Above the Testimony… the Covenant.

In the Ark of the Covenant, Mercy Seat, blood is placed on the Day of Atonement – the picture is clear here… Mercy doesn’t ignore Justice. Both meet in this Place.

Mercy is not found by eliminating Testimony (the Commandments are called the Testimony)… In a trial (Yahweh’s Throne is the Place of Judgment), the Testimony must be heard…  The Covenant still exists, the Testimony still exists – in fact it is the foundation of the Throne – the center of the Seat. The Commandments (of which the Statutes are the fine print) are the center of the Throne of Yahweh.

The Hebrew word translated as “mercy seat” is kapporet (H3727)…  which is from the same root as Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)…  kaphar (H3722) which is the Hebrew word for Atonement… Covering…

The entire Gospel is there in gold and acacia wood.

We are all condemned by the Testimony beneath the Mercy Seat. Yet, Yahweh choose to meet His people above the Covering…  Above the blood… Above the Place where Mercy and Justice meet.

·       Psalm 85:9-10  “Surely His Salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and Truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.”

What’s not above the Ark?  There is no denial... No throne of lowered standards, or the Law being done away… No throne of “sin isn’t really that serious…”

There is a Mercy Seat

·       The Testimony remains true (the Testimony is the Law of Yahweh)

·       The violation remains real.

·       The holiness remains unchanged – and is kept, preserved.

Grace is EXPENSIVE!!!

·       In Leviticus 16:7-10, 20-22- Yahweh’s goat is slain and the azazel goat (aka the scapegoat) is taken into the wilderness… (represents how hasatan will be bound for a thousand years – that’s his wilderness time)

·       Two goats, one Atonement…

o   In Judgment all the saved people of Yahweh are cleansed in the blood of the Atonement goat of Yahweh (representing Yahshua)…  And all the culpability for tempting the saved is put upon the scapegoat (representing hasatan)…  hasatan will die after the wilderness time… but his Judgment is regarding the saved… In the Lake of Fire, the enemy doesn’t die for the sins of the unsaved – they’re dying for themselves…

·       Sin produces separation from Yahweh – always…

o   The wilderness, in which the Tabernacle is set, represents the realm of sin and death… It is a place without Truth and the Water of Life... which are only found in Yahweh.

§  Isaiah_44:3  “For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour My Spirit upon thy seed, and My Blessing upon thine offspring.”

§  Isaiah_41:18  “I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.”

§  Psalm_63:1  “…O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.”

o   We become a spiritual wilderness through rebellion… The devil is the ultimate rebel – the father of rebellion – he is taken out into the dry desolate place to suffer the intensity of his rebellion – the fruit of it. He carries impurities with him from the camp…  Yahweh is teaching Israel something important here… Sin contaminates sacred Space…

Jude 1:11-13  Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.”

o   The high priest would be fully cleansed of his sins prior to – in preparation for – entering the Most Holy Place… The awe, reverence and godly fear was a big part of entering this Space… Fear is the beginning of wisdom…  So the approach before His Throne is with fear, with Blood, and with incense clouding the Mercy Seat “so that he does not die” (Leviticus 16:13).
